— D&MR came by and we photographed sunset
We got up around our normal time and I had my usual breakfast. We turned on the generator around 7:50 to start charging the batteries and to give us some 110 VAC without tapping into the batteries. I did some computer work. We turned off the generator around 8:45 because J was starting to notice the exhaust fumes. We were getting about 10A of solar-electric power — almost as much as we were using. I started to work up a blog entry and J baked some brownies.

Our friends D&MR from Quebec, Canada, arrived in their RV around 9:35. J had known them online through a photography website for a few years, and it was the first time we had met them in person. They came over to our RV to visit and we had a great time.

We went over to their RV around 12:45 to have lunch. I had pastrami on a Kaiser roll and Coca Cola Classic and J had pastrami and roast beef on a Kaiser roll and water. DR brought out his Nikon AF-S Zoom Nikkor 14-24 f2.8G for me to play with, and I think it made me drool!

J and I returned to our RV around 2:10. I finished the blog entry then started to drain the coffee concentrate from the Toddy Cold Brew System. J left around 3:05 to take D&MR around in the Jeep and I processed images for a stock submission. J returned around 5:30. I left in the Jeep around 6:15 and took D&MR with me.

We went a little northwest of the scenic overlook near the summit of Skyline Drive to photograph sunset which was officially at 6:46. The wispy clouds were a great addition to the fall color and layered mountains (below left). The clouds turned a wonderful orange shortly after sunset (below right) and then a dark red later.

Green Beans With Tangy Sauce

  • 2 cans French-sliced green beans, drained almost completely
  • 2 tbs butter

Sauce

  • 2 tbs dried onion
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tbs red wine vinegar
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 2 tsp worcestershire sauce
Cook the green beans in a saucepan with the butter.

Mix the sauce ingredients well in a cup or bowl.

Pour the sauce over the cooked green beans, and mix lightly. Continue cooking for a few minutes until the beans are well flavored.
We returned to the RVs around 7:15, and D&MR came over for ...

Dinner around 7:25 of pasta and green beans with tangy sauce (right). J had tried some fast-cooking pasta and didn't believe that pasta could cook so quickly, so she cooked it longer. We had extremely well-done pasta — can you say "soggy"? The pasta sauce and beans went over well. We had brownies with frosting and vanilla ice cream for dessert, and they were the best brownies I've had in a long time! We had a great visit over dinner. J meets the best people through that photography website!

D&MR returned to their RV around 9:05 and I started in on the dishes. J helped by drying them as I washed. I finished draining the coffee concentrate from the Toddy Cold Brew System, and I got about 52 fl oz (1.54l), significantly more than the proscribed 48 fl oz (1.42l) for the standard recipe, and it just barely fit into the Nalgene bottle! I downloaded the images I took this evening then downselected them before going to bed.
